A Model Diet…

How is it that models are so skinny?

Well for starters they are naturally thin and they are young, and their bodies haven’t developed fully yet.

However they still need to watch what they eat, just like we all do!

A models diet is very simple and you may think boring, but it is all about being healthy now and in the long term. Because severe dieting when you are young will result in major health issues when you are older.

A model MUST eat healthy to maintain her energy for all that work running from one fashion shoot to another.

Being anorexic or bulimic is not tolerated in the modelling industry and those models that do this will generally be fired from her agency. They want slim healthy girls, not super skinny withdrawn girls.

As I have said before if you are not naturally slim then don’t become a model.

But if you just need to cut a few kilos from your weight then this is the way to do it!

  • Cut out all junk food from your diet! Sorry but it must go!
  • Don’t drink soft drinks or those smart drinks either.
  • Ideally drink 8 glasses of water day and drink black tea or coffee with no added sugar.
  • Minimise dairy products such as butter, cream and cheese to twice a week.
  • For breakfast eat either oat bran/porridge as your cereal or fresh fruit and low fat yogurt (no added fruit or flavour as these have a lot of sugar in them), go for vanilla or natural.
  • Snack on raw unsalted nuts when you are hungry such as Brazil, cashew, almonds, walnuts and/or macadamias.
  • For lunch have a non-creamy soup such as tomato soup or eat a salad with lean meat such as chicken, fish and turkey.
  • For dinner have a full plate of vegetables or salad (with an olive oil and lemon dressing) with only one potato and lean meat such as salmon, chicken or turkey.
  • If you are still hungry have one piece of fruit or a pottle of low fat yogurt.
  • Eat your meal at night before 7pm, so you are not going to bed with a full stomach.

Overall you can eat as much and many vegetables as you like. For instance raw carrots are a great snack around 4pm when we all get hungry.

Be sensible about what you eat as you have only got one body and it has to last you a lifetime!

Be the BEST that YOU can BE!

What size is the average model in Australia and New Zealand?

High fashion models for catwalk and editorial are size 8. As that is the international standard for models and we must follow.

However for everyday catalogue modelling it is a size 10.

Sports Illustrated Model
If you wanted to be a Sports Illustrated model in the USA they look at models from size 8 to 12. Because they are swimsuit models and therefore must look healthy and have a healthy bust.

Victoria Secrets Model
To be a Victoria Secrets Model in America you must measure: bust 34”, waist 24”, hips 34”.  They have a once a year competition: Models must be female, between 18 to 30 years of age, from the United States and a minimum of 5’8” tall (barefoot).

Plus Size Modelling
Some agencies will accept what is termed as plus size models. They are size 14 upwards and must have a proportional figure and shapely legs.

Charity Modelling
Being in your local fashion parade raising money for charity can be fun and they generally look for normal size models such as size 10 and 12. Generally they will use plus size models as well. But this is fun, not for your profit. But why not enjoy yourself!

But remember…
Regardless of which type of model you wish to be, you must be 5’8/172cm to 5’11’/180cm.

Please, please, please…
If you are not naturally a size 8 and have to struggle to be that size, then do not become a high fashion model as you will never be happy or healthy. Think of another career where you will happy, healthy and feel a lot more fulfilled.

Regardless if you want to be a model or not it is still important to look and feel your best by learning about correct skincare, makeup, clothes, deportment and general grooming so you too will look stunning!

BE the BEST that YOU can BE!
